“The Olivet Discourse” – Part 1 Matthew 24:1-3 “Jesus Gives History in Advance”
March 20, 2020
After Jesus denounced the scribes and Pharisees, He left the temple. As He left, on His way to Bethany, His disciples pointed out the splendor of the temple buildings. To the disciples, the temple seemed an eternal monument, a bedrock of evidence of the solidarity of Israel’s religious life and of God’s blessing upon Jerusalem. As they stood marveling, Jesus re-set their thinking as He foretold the coming destruction of the temple 40 years before it occurred.
This discourse with His disciples is one of Jesus’ most famous teachings, it is known as “The Olivet Discourse.” The first three verses of Matthew 24 are the catalyst for Jesus’ teaching on the end times.
